As an official RYA Training Centre, we offer practical sailing and power courses from the introductory Start Yachting level through to RYA Yachtmaster Tidal, supported by the appropriate RYA shore based theory courses. All RYA training courses are delivered in English.

Hi, this is Simon Thompson, im Yachting Sotogrande´s CEO. As a Commercially Endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Ocean in both Sail and Power i´ve been providing all types of tuition in both Sailing Boats and Motor Cruisers.
Supported by experienced RYA Yachtmaster instructors, getting your boating licence in Sotogrande will prove to be a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge in navigating and operating sailing and motor boats, while enjoying the beautiful coastal scenery of the Mediterranean.

RComplete beginnersThe Competent Crew course introduces the complete beginner to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and helmsman ship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew on a cruising yacht.

This course is designed to teach you pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling so that you will feel confident to skipper a small yacht safely yourself by day in familiar tidal waters.

RBecome a Yachtmaster
Both the Yachtsmaster Coastal and the Yachtmaster Offshore are based on the same syllabus. The difference is the level of experience and mileage that the candidate has.
Both courses are aimed at those who wish to go on and take the RYA/MCA practical exam which is on the last day of the course.

4 days preparation plus 24/48 hrs examination time. Starting Sunday at 1800 and finishing Saturday at 1000.

- Coastal Skipper: Navigation to Coastal Skipper Shorebase standard, sailing to Coastal Skipper Practical standard, 30 days sea time (2 days as skipper), 800 miles, 12 night hours. Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate. Valid First Aid certificate. Aged 17 or over.
- Yachtmaster Offshore: Navigation to Coastal Skipper Shorebase standard, 50 days sea time (5 days as skipper) 2500 miles, 5 passages over 60 miles, including 2 over night and 2 as skipper. Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate. Valid First Aid certificate. Aged 18 or over.
