      Your Questions

      Our Schedule:

On our practical courses, we meet onboard at 1000h on the primary day or 1800h the day before, if flying in from overseas. During the course of the week, we set sail from Sotogrande and sail to Morocco, Gibraltar, Ceuta and back to the Mediterranean coast of Spain (weather dependent). It’s a fantastic sailing ground covering a variety of interesting countries and ports, all within close proximity from one another. This makes for a great training ground whether a beginner or aiming to become a Yachtmaster. The Straits of Gibraltar are filled with dolphins and the scenery is outstanding.

        What´s Included?

Included in the price for the course is all fuel used during training, all safety equipment, and mooring fees. This practical course includes accommodation on the boat including bed linen, duvets, breakfasts, lunches and refreshments onboard. 2 evening meals can be provided while on passage and the remaining meals we eat ashore in the various different stops along the way.

(Ashore meals and drinks not inlcuded).

Your Competent Crew will be issued on successful completion.

              Snacks & Food

The yacht used for your course has a full galley fitted with a twin burner gas hob with oven and a fridge. Yachting Sotogrande supplies breakfast cereals, toast, tea, coffee and milk & food for lunch for the duration of the course. All the marinas we visit during the course have places to buy snacks and any extra groceries should you wish. Evening meals are a mixture of crew meals cooked onboard, takeaways and the meals out. Ashore meals & drinks are all at the student’s expense.

                Clothing & Equipment

Your course is conducted mostly at sea, so the correct clothing is important. You will need to bring the following:

Footwear: Boating boots or shoes are ideal, but not essential. Trainers or white soled boots work well. Have a change of footwear as you will get wet feet at sea.

Inner Layers: Several layers work better than a single thick layer. Have several changes of clothes in case you do get wet and to last the duration of the course. As weather changes per season, please bring appropiate clothing.

Extras: Depending on the time of year you might want to consider bringing gloves, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream. Each overnight stop will have shower facilities, so please do bring a towel and personal hygene products as you will feel fresh after being exposed to seawater.

                      Assumed knowledge & prerequisites

There are no pre-requisites for this course but it would be worth reading some pre-course material Competent Crew skills book – (CCPCN)

                        Recommended aditional training

This is very much a hands-on course with little time to teach navigation or other theoretical subjects. It is therefore recommended that you take the Day Skipper Shore based Theory Course prior or after your practical course so you can put those skills into practice on the water.

Although it is not strictly mandatory, a good theoretical understanding of life at sea will make you a better skipper. If you are planning to improve your skills, then it is a good option to do your Day Skipper Theory online at ARDENT TRAINING and then come and do the practical course with us, here in Sotogrande.
